One of the biggest feel-good stories of last season was the emergence of former Kansas Jayhawk and third pick overall, Joel Embiid. Embiid spent all of his first two seasons out with foot injuries, and expectations were very high in Philadelphia following the news that he will play in the 2016-17 season. Even though he has not played much, in the 31 games he did play, he played at an All-Star caliber level and right now, he is contention for the Rookie of The Year award.

Even with how good he was on the court, the biggest appeal of Embiid, in general, is his off-court antics. He does not shy away from trolling on social media, mostly trolling current Grizzlies forward Chandler Parsons, as well as drinking virgin Shirley Temples or pursuing pop stars such as Rihanna. Of course, the most publicized aspect about him is his motto – “The Process”.

Embiid is in Europe right now with Carmelo Anthony and Clint Capela, waiting for the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus, where he spoke to DIME about many topics.

When asked about his pursuit of Rihanna, which is now a well-known fact about him, he jokingly said that it is on hold right due to rehab of his injuries. Speaking of injuries, Embiid also said that he will see a doctor next week and he expects to be back doing on-court practices soon.

He also shared some words about the young core of the Sixers, consisting of Dario Šarić, Ben Simmons and himself.

“I mean, basketball will be exciting. I thought we had a good year this year, so I think next year when we have everybody healthy — I mean we’ll have to learn how to play with each other on the court — but I think it’s going to be really fun. I thought I had a lot of fun last year, but next year is going to be extremely fun.”

Philly fans should be pretty excited about the future of this team and how they will play on the court together. They have a very good young core surrounded with a couple of veterans, and a high draft pick from the 2017 Draft still remains.  The future looks bright, and after so many injury-plagued seasons, this franchise and their fans really deserve it.
