The NBA Draft Combine is happening this week in Chicago, Illinois and potential rookies are there to prove themselves in front of scouts, coaches, and general managers.

However, a few big name players like Malik Monk and De'Aaron Fox did not attend the combine. This is in line with Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Kevin Durant‘s advice that potential top lottery picks should skip the combine.

But while Durant's stance on the combine raised a few eyebrows, University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari agrees with the superstar swingman.

From Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:

“For the guys if there's anything here that will hurt you, don't come,” John Calipari said at the combine. “If there's anything here that will help you, come. If you have to play to help yourself, come. If it doesn't help you, then don't play.”

“Come (to the combine) and don't play,” Calipari said. “They all like you right now without watching you. Good. The more you don't play they don't like you. So don't play. Then if someone takes him in the lottery, I will retire. There's nothing more I can do.”

Sage advice from Calipari, who knows a thing or two about getting players into the league.
