Earlier this offseason, the Washington Wizards reportedly offered All-Star point guard John Wall a four-year, $170 million extension.

However, there has yet to be any progress made on either front toward hammering out a deal. According to Candance Buckner of the Washington Post, Wall doesn't appear to be any rush to sign the extension with the Wizards.

“I’m just chillin’. Just trying to figure out to negotiate it and manipulate it the way you want it to be,” Wall said, smiling, when asked about his status on a decision. “Everybody know where I want to play and where I want to be. Everybody took it the wrong way [when it was reported] I wanted to wait. It’s a big decision. I love D.C.

“Everything I do, I do it for the city of D.C., I do so much in the community. If it wasn’t for the love of that, I wouldn’t do it.”

The 26-year-old is set to enter the fourth year of his five-year, $84.7 million that does not include any player or team options. This alone has created a greater sense of urgency from the Wizards to get him locked up to a long-term deal.

The Wizards have done everything in their power to keep their core group together over the last two offseason by re-signing both Bradley Beal and Otto Porter to lucrative contracts. Beal had inked a five-year, $127.1 million deal last summer, and Porter inked a four-year, $106.5 million.

However, Washington has hit a proverbial wall in the Eastern Conference sitting well behind both the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. This stagnant standing in the conference may have created some sort of pause from Wall to hold off on inking a long-term extension.

Ultimately, he may be keeping his long-term options as he heads into the prime of his career. a
