Well, the Jon Gruden to the Rams rumors were fun while they lasted.

Last week, Los Angeles fired head coach Jeff Fisher despite giving him a contract extension that was just revealed. Immediately, speculation about who owner Stan Kroenke would pursue for the gig commenced.

The biggest names thrown out there were Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, and Gruden. The first two quickly dispelled the possibility of them leaving their current gigs, but Gruden's name stuck, at least temporarily.

There were reports about the current Monday Night Football commentator demanding an expansive, and extensive, contract from the Rams.

Maybe these discussions didn't actually take place, or maybe Kroenke was not comfortable meeting Gruden's demands. Either way, Jon did his best to downplay the possibility of him returning to an NFL sideline any time soon.

There's no arguing that Gruden's current job is pretty great.

His popularity as the color commentator for MNF provides him with tremendous job security in a position that pays incredibly well. He can still watch game tape and analyze players and strategies like he did as a coach, but there's far less pressure and the hours aren't as demanding.
