With the quarterback controversy going on within the Green Bay Packers organization, we have finally gotten information about Jordan Love. Superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been in trade rumors since the NFL Draft and the Packers have yet to see Love in a game. With no preseason this past year, they have only seen him in practice.

“He’s got a long way to go,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after the first round of this year’s draft, according to The Athletic. “But we’re ecstatic for his development.”

If Love still needs time to develop, Green Bay needs to make sure they can keep Rodgers for at least one more season. The comments from Green Bay don't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement for Love as an immediate contributor.

“Obviously we think the world of Jordan and where he’s going to grow and develop. I think it’s pretty early to be able to tell you that because obviously with no preseason games last year and just kind of the no-spring, but we have a lot of confidence in his talents, in his work ethic, and where he’s going to go. But it’s a little early for that,” Gutekunst went on to mention.

While we haven't seen a game from Love, we have seen many from Rodgers. The Packers should do whatever they can to get Rodgers to stay. They may like the player Love has the potential to be, but you know what you are getting from the three-time MVP. Green Bay needs to own up to making a mistake and drafting his replacement too early. Love may become a great player in the future, but with the roster constructed as it is, they are in win-now mode. Love won't be able to take them to the Super Bowl.

Rodgers can.

After improving holes of the team in the draft, the Packers can and will compete if Rodgers returns. In the first round, they selected cornerback Eric Stokes who will improve the defense drastically. They finally have a corner that will be reliable alongside Jaire Alexander.

In the second and third rounds, the Packers improved the offense by getting center Josh Myers and wide receiver Amari Rodgers. After losing Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley in free agency, drafting Myers was a solid pick. Picking Rodgers is great as he projects to be a Randall Cobb-type player. Getting another weapon for whoever the quarterback will be as vital.

Trading Love may be an option the Packers will have to take down the road. If they can secure Rodgers for the future, there will be no point in having Love sit on the bench. First, he needs to get game experience in at least the preseason so other teams would have an idea of his talent. It will be a tough decision for Green Bay as they thought a lot about Love as they traded up for him in the draft. However, Aaron Rodgers is a once-in-a-generation type talent and trading him away would be a mistake.

Green Bay needs to figure how they can get Rodgers to stay for the sake of their future.
