Buffalo Bills cornerback Josh Norman may be sidelined for the team's Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets on Sunday.

Norman missed practice Wednesday as a result of a hamstring injury he has reportedly been harboring for weeks, rendering him questionable for the opener.

This would also mean Norman's Bills debut would be put on hold after the veteran signed a one-year deal with the team in the offseason.

While the Bills listed Norman as the second outside cornerback opposite All-Pro Tre'Davious White, head coach Sean McDermott stated he would have preferred to see more competition between Norman and Levi Wallace (via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk):

“Would I have loved some other weeks that we could’ve strung together here? Yeah. I think if you poll any other coach around the league they’d say the same,” McDermott said in a videoconference with reporters. “We are where we are. We’re doing the best job we can and we expect whoever plays to come out and play at a high level.”

Perhaps the decision would be made easier if Wallace were healthy, but the third-year corner is also nursing an injury (knee) of his own.

Wallace started all 16 games for Buffalo last season, finishing the year with a pair of interceptions and nine passes defended.

Norman, meanwhile, struggled to recapture his 2015 All-Pro form in Washington. The 32-year-old has dealt with some injuries, and also gave up seven touchdowns in coverage last season, per Pro Football Reference.

In any case, it would seem it is “next man up” mentality for McDermott and the Bills if Norman and Wallace are both unable to go on Sunday.
