After news surfaced that Josh Smith was in discussion to bring his talents to China, the 6-foot-9 forward and CBA team Sichuan Whales have now agreed to make him the replacement for their injured import, Mike Harris.

The 17th overall pick of the 2004 draft last played for the L.A. Clippers and Houston Rockets just last season but failed to earn his spot in both teams' rotation.

Smith will look to resurrect his career overseas after being left unsigned by NBA teams. Once a sought-after free agent because of his athleticism and defensive prowess, the former Slam Dunk Champion was not able to generate interest from teams last summer after his weaknesses, such as poor shot selection and inefficient outside shooting, have been exposed over the past couple of seasons.

He hopes to follow the lead of other players who played in China but were able to make a successful comeback to the NBA like Metta World Peace and Michael Beasley.

The good news for him? He is only 30-years-old and still has a lot left in the tank. If he'll be able to showcase his skills and prove that he is worthy of a roster spot in an NBA team, it won't be impossible for him to receive an offer to play at the highest level once again.
