Jud Buechler, a new member of the Knicks coaching staff, is OK admitting that his move to New York is in effort to take coaching more seriously.

Most recently with the Los Angeles Lakers, Buechler told the San Diego Tribune that going to the Knicks was essentially doing just that.

“I’ve decided I really want to move forward with this coaching thing,” Jud Buechler said. “I jumped at the chance to go to New York because it will help me. I’m thrilled to be going there. I will forever be grateful to Luke for giving me a chance to coach after I’d been out of the league for about 15 years or so. I learned a ton of stuff about the new NBA because it’s not the same NBA as it was when I was playing.”

For those unfamiliar with the coach, he was a former NBA player who was drafted in the second round way back in 1990. He had stints with several NBA teams, though most people remember Buechler for his time with the Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan era in the Windy City.

Of course, as it is law whenever someone goes to New York, he also loves Madison Square Garden.

“Madison Square Garden is the last great building for basketball in the country,” Buechler said. “It’s the mecca of basketball.”
