The offense of the new-look New England Patriots is much different with quarterback Cam Newton at the helm. It has affected the entire unit, but most especially veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman who has seen a decrease in his touches and a diminished role in the team's offensive rotation thus far.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels also stressed the importance of the veteran together with the entire team being able to find their groove in the coming games:

“Certainly Julian’s always a big part of what we want to try to do, and I need to do a good job of trying to get him going,” McDaniels said, via Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. “But, I think in the grand scheme of things, all of us need to do our jobs well and try to get contributions from everybody to be the most effective we can be.”

The Kent State product had eight total catches for 179 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, but only had 12 catches for 123 yards in the other four games and has yet to get into the end zone.

In addition, the recent COVID-19 outbreak within the Patriots camp prevented the team from practicing regularly. The rust showed in their most recent matchup against the Denver Broncos which saw Edelman tally dismal numbers of eight receiving yards on two receptions.

The entire Patriots squad failed to hit their strides in the game which resulted in an 18-12 defeat. The loss now pushed back the Patriots below a .500 winning percentage and held them to a 2-3 record to sit at third place in the AFC East division.

Edelman and the rest of the team will aim to get back on the winning track in their next tilt against the San Francisco 49ers for Week 7 proceedings.
