With the Los Angeles Lakers missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year, it has provided their young core with a good head start into their offseason preparations.

As such, Julius Randle, who had just finished his third season in the league and second full year on the court, is making the most out of the opportunity to work on his craft. One of the biggest areas that the former first round pick focused on early in his offseason schedule is working on his physical condition.

The 22-year-old looks to have made significant progress in that regard, completely changing his physique in just three short weeks.

This should create enough excitement for Lakers fans to see Randle trim down and get in better physical condition at such an early stage of the offseason. It should allow him to play at a higher level for longer stretches, while freeing up more time for him to work on other aspects of his game this upcoming summer.

Randle saw some promising improvement in the 2016-17 campaign, averaging 13.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He joins Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Shaquille O’Neal, Vlade Divac, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and Jim Pollard on the list of Lakers to maintain those averages for an entire season. He also becomes the third player in team history to post these numbers in their third season joining the likes of Johnson and Baylor.

With this encouraging progress in his physical condition, the next step for Randle could be further developing the use of his off hand (right) more often in scoring opportunities near the basket on either drives or post-ups on the low block.

All in all, Lakers fans should be excited about what could lie ahead for Julius Randle.
