There is no denying that some of the current political campaigns being run in the United States are unique, to put it nicely.

NBA fans from both sides of the political spectrum will be interested in some announcements regarding the Democratic National Convention, which will be held next week in Philadelphia.

Hall-of-Fame big man Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be one of many speakers at the convention, as well as NBA brothers, Jason and Jarron Collins.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, won six NBA championships and six MVP awards. Whilst he is one of the greatest in the game’s history, there has always been more to him than basketball.

The former UCLA man can also be known as a writer, activist and cultural ambassador. He has stated his political stance many times throughout his career and has publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton earlier this year.

The Collins brothers have always been perceived as well-spoken, intelligent sportsmen. Their support at the convention will be appreciated by many.

Jason, who became the first openly gay, active NBA player in 2014, has received support from various communities since making the bold decision to come out whilst still in the league.

Jarron currently works as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors.

Many will suspect that this is an attempt from the Democratic Party to connect with fans of the NBA but there is no doubt that the chosen speakers are appropriate ambassadors for the league.
