Kevin Garnett is contemplating on calling it quits prior to returning for a historic 22nd NBA season which would be the longest career of any player in league history.

Garnett, who turned 40 this year, started his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves under the nickname “The Kid”, and transitioned into becoming “The Big Ticket” as he grew and matured into his career form.

Considering his age and milage, Garnett is not sure if his balky knee can withstand another long and grinding NBA Season. And for the first time, he is seriously considering hanging up his shoes for good.

If anyone in the organization knows the answer, they aren't saying, so Ramona Shelburne of ESPN went to up-and-coming big man Karl-Anthony Towns to ask what he thought about Garnett's potential return…or retirement.

Indeed, Kevin Garnett has earned the right to make his own decision after 21 years in the league. He spent much of last season passing on his wisdom to Towns, who is the chosen successor to Garnett and his legacy in Minnesota. Towns continued:

It might take skipping games, and reducing minutes to a minimum to make sure he is around all year, but Garnett should definitely consider returning because this is the year that the young Timberwolves have enough talented pieces to make a playoff run.

While Garnett may not be able to play as much as he wants to (and he probably wants to play), his leadership inside the locker room and on the floor is just something you cannot put a price on.

Karl-Anthony Towns is a very talented player, but having Garnett around helped him tremendously, with all of the future Hall of Famer's experience, by being in Towns' ear and telling him all of the right things. The result was Towns winning Rookie of the Year and showing more maturity in his game during his first year in the league.

Just recently Tim Duncan took a little more time than usual to give his answer about returning, but ultimately decided to retire. And now, it's taking Kevin Garnett even longer to decide. It would be a great way to send him off to retirement if he helps in taking the Timberwolves back into the post-season. But so far the signs are all pointing towards him possibly hanging up his sneakers.
