The San Antonio Spurs have gotten the ball rolling as of late with their third straight win in the first of their back-to-back with the Memphis Grizzlies. The return of veteran point guard Tony Parker has helped further stabilize this otherwise solid unit.

However, they could be ready to kick it up a notch soon. According to Jeff McDonald of mysanantonio.com, head coach Greg Popovich says superstar forward Kawhi Leonard is in the last phase of his recovery process:

“Those are the last steps,” Popovich said. “That’s what Tony (Parker) did before he came back.”

Leonard has been nursing a quadriceps injury since the offseason. All the while, “Pop” has been adamant about not rushing the two-time Defensive Player of the Year back to the court throughout the recovery process.

Leonard's impending return certainly spells good news for San Antonio. However, even with the promising designation from Popovich, Leonard could still be weeks away from making his 2017-18 NBA season debut.

It is likely that San Antonio will take the same course of action they did with the veteran Parker, who has since played two games after returning from a quad injury of his own. Regardless, it will give the Spurs a chance to shore things up before the looming return of their franchise player.
