All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard has informed the San Antonio Spurs that he desires a move on from the franchise, which has potentially put him on the open market this upcoming offseason. He has already expressed interest in making the move to his hometown of L0s Angeles to possibly to suit up for either the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers.

According to Tania Ganguli of The LA Times, neither of these teams has reached out to the Spurs due to concerns with the severity of the injury that Leonard is currently making his way back from.

Neither the Lakers nor Clippers have had trade discussions with the Spurs, as both teams have concerns about the severity of Leonard’s injury

These concerns from both the Lakers and Clippers is warranted given that Leonard had missed entirely this past season due to a quad injury that has ailed him for nearly the last year. It had grown to the point that the 26-year-old had to go to get a second opinion away from the team to get more clarity on the state of his health as it has lingered on over the last few months of the season.

Any team that has interest in acquiring Leonard will likely look to get clarity on where he is at with his quadriceps injury. A trade would require a huge haul in return that is a huge commitment and risk that another organization will be banking on him being past the ailment while returning to playing like one of the top players in the league.

It is still quite early in the process, but there will be significant interest around the league beyond just the Lakers and Clippers that could make for some serious trade chatter over the next few weeks that could run through the summer.
