Super Bowl LV has come and gone with Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming out on top against Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs with a 31-9 victory. Brady earned his seventh ring in the process and effectively ended the NFL's GOAT debate.

As a result, Brady’s stock has hit new highs when it comes to the card market. A day before the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, a PSA10 2000 Bowman Chrome Tom Brady rookie card was auctioned off for $20,100. A day after, another PSA 10 of the same card fetched $29,200 in an auction on eBay. Currently, this card is ranging from $23,000 to $25,000.

That price is certainly a welcome development for Tom Brady card investors. For Patrick Mahomes fans, it’s a different story.

The state of Patrick Mahomes’ card stock

The days before any major sporting event is the exact time when prices of popular athletes go crazy. Proof of this is one of Mahomes’ PSA 10 Prizm Silver rookie cards on eBay. It peaked three days before the Super Bowl when it was sold for $19,500. Two days after, another graded Mahomes silver rookie card fetched $16,499.99.

Then Tom Brady and the Buccaneers rained on every Mahomes investor's parade by defeating the Chiefs.

Right off the bat, Mahome’s value plummeted. A graded Prizm Silver rookie card, which was commanding an insanely high price the day before Super Bowl, dropped to $11,799. An auction for this card on eBay earlier this week went even lower to $10,200.

As you can see, the drop of Mahomes' card stock is quite noticeable. Those who invested a lot of money in him before the Super Bowl are now left with a massive loss on their end.

One, we’re talking about Patrick Mahomes. He’s only 25 years old, as compared to Brady, who’s 43. He has a lot of years and opportunities to win multiple Super Bowls ahead of him. This one loss won’t stop him from being the future of the sport, especially if Brady retires soon.

Two, card prices will usually cool down after the Super Bowl and into the offseason. They’ll heat back up again once the NFL Draft commences and hype for the new season is generated. When this happens, people will scour the market for Mahomes’ rookie cards again, which should then drive up his value.

Three, this is the perfect opportunity to get more of Mahomes’ cards because they’re at their lowest point. Remember, the best time to buy is when everyone is fearful and the ideal time to sell is when everyone gets too greedy. Buy low now on Mahomes and you’ll surely sell high on him at some point next season.

With the reasons stated above, the verdict is clear: keep your Patrick Mahomes cards. There’s nothing to fear because his recent drop is just temporary and his stock will normalize soon enough.
