After undergoing a successful shoulder surgery last May, Boston Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk is now on the road to recovery.

The 25-year-old was given a timetable of five months before he could resume basketball activities, which is supposed to be somewhere in the middle of next month. But now according to CSN New England, there is belief from his team that missing the start of the season is a very real possibility.

Recovering from major injuries, like Olynyk's, is always tricky. Though a timetable was set, setbacks and delays usually occur. The good news is, should the Canadian miss some games, it won't be a lot and there is still a chance that he may be ready just in time for the season opener.

Entering a contract year, the Gonzaga product has a lot to prove in order to secure a huge paycheck from the Celtics or receive interest from other NBA teams. He has had very decent numbers since he started his career with averages of 9.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 20.8 minutes per game.

With the addition of the team's star signing this summer, Al Horford, Olynyk is expected to provide quality minutes and energy off the bench. Coach Brad Stevens will slowly ease him back to the rotation and after getting his groove once again, should get his share of the minutes in the team's frontcourt.

Some have speculated that Olynyk will be traded by the C's sometime this season. If he doesn't recover well form the injury, the team will have a hard time moving him if that really is their plan.

There's definitely a lot at stake for the 7-footer this coming season. He and the whole of Boston are hoping he can be back to 100 percent the soonest as he will be play an important role in their team's quest to compete in the Eastern Conference.
