Despite coming off a solid season for the Boston Celtics, the team is expecting their young back-up big man, Kelly Olynyk, to part ways with them this summer.

Although he was an integral part of their rotation this past postseason, the Celtics are in a peculiar position of not being able to extend a lucrative offer to him that he deserves, as they are chasing cap space room in order to lure a big name free agent. That said, the more likely scenario is Olynyk receiving a decent amount of interest from teams around the league, and the C’s would not be able to pay him even nearly as much as what others can offer, ultimately letting him walk away.

The 26-year-old Canadian international has spent his first four years in the NBA in Beantown, and after an injury-plagued stretch from 2014-2016, Olynyk has bounced back, appearing in 75 regular season and 18 playoff games for his team this past season. He averaged 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and a career high 2.0 assists in 20.7 minutes per game.

With his skill set and playoff experience, a number of teams could potentially make a move to bring him in to their fold. Olynyk’s days with the Celtics may be coming to an end soon, but he would definitely be missed by their fans, especially with the hustle and energy he provides night in and night out.
