After being forced to sit out his team's game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday due to a knee contusion, Detroit Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will return to action in their next game. However, he will have a new look then as he will be wearing something to give his knee extra cushion and support.

The 23-year-old Georgia product has agreed to wear knee pads starting on Wednesday night when the Pistons play the Dallas Mavericks. Caldwell-Pope will not be the first one from his team using them as Andre Drummond and Marcus Morris also have them under their tights.

Caldwell-Pope recently talked about adding the knee pads to his attire on the court and also mentioned how long he plans to wear them.

“I've got wear them from now on, throughout the whole season. We'll see how that goes.”

Pistons' head coach Stan Van Gundy also chimed in on his starting shooting guard sporting the knee pads.

“I've never done it for games because, you know, players will have things. You don't want to give them excuses. ‘Well, I feel slow,' or whatever.

“But I did ask him to please wear them, which I think he will now. Some guys do. I watch them out here everyday. I don't think they're inhibiting anyone's quickness.”

It will be interesting to see how Caldwell-Pope will fare in their next outing wearing the knee pads for the first time. Should it not hinder his mobility, he'll likely produce numbers close to his season averages so far of 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
