Kevin Durant‘s real height has been one of the NBA's biggest mysteries since coming out of college as a 6-foot-10 talent, playing the shooting guard position for the Seattle Supersonics.

Eventually transitioning to the small forward spot, the league's four-time scoring champion has been listed at 6-foot-9 during the past few years, with many questioning his real height when standing next to actual seven-footers and looking nearly identical as the tall trees that patrol the lane.

In an interview with Bob Fitzgerald on KNBR, the Finals MVP finally revealed his true height and the reason he's kept it under wraps for an entire decade in the league.

“Since I love you guys so much, I was recorded at 6'10” and three-quarters with no shoes, so with my shoes on I'm 7-feet,” Durant said.

Asked why he's been listed at 6-foot, 9-inches for such a long time, he was nonchalant in his response.

“I just like messin' with people,” he said. “They just ask me so much… yeah, I just like messin' with people.”

Height change has gone on in the NBA for years, mostly as a way for undersized players to make themselves taller and not reflect a size mismatch with others, some others for aesthetics. Durant not only shaved three inches off his actual frame through his first 10 years in the league, but impressively was the first league-wide talent to handle the ball with such efficiency with such a towering frame.
