Most of the time, when people talk about JaVale McGee, it’s hard not to bring up his comedic and even questionable antics on the court. He has been named the MVP of Shaqtin’ A Fool a number of times, and many do not take him seriously.

However, MCGee has proven this season that he can contribute to the Golden State Warriors through quality minutes off the bench.

For Kevin Durant, it’s more than his rebounding and shotblocking that makes him important to the Dubs. He recently made an appearance on The Bill Simmons podcast where he answered a lot of questions about his first campaign in Oakland.

The Finals MVP also discussed how McGee has brought their team together with his positivity, as well as work ethic. Durant then added that he admires his good demeanor which he thinks makes them gravitate towards McGee.

After his stint with three teams in the past two seasons, McGee has found a home with the Warriors and played well for them with averages of 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and a shade under one block per game in only 9.6 minutes per game. Despite what seems like pedestrian numbers, it’s his ability to change shots with his mere presence that makes him valuable on the court.

It won’t be surprising if the team’s front office decides to sign the locker room favorite once again this summer as they plan to keep the core intact when they defend their title. Durant’s comments also proves that there’s more to McGee’s often hilarious ways.
