Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant didn't hesitate to voice his opinion on the NBA's rest issue. In weeks prior, commissioner Adam Silver asked teams in a memo to be conscious of resting their players, urging owners to get more involved in their teams' roster management.

Durant said the league's distaste for resting players only applies to a few blockbuster-type stars, making the addition of a new rule kind of pointless.

“The truth about it is, it's only for a couple of players in the league,” Durant told ESPN's Chris Haynes. “They don't care if the 13th man on the bench rest(s). It's only for like LeBron (James), Steph (Curry), (James) Harden, Russell (Westbrook). It's only for like five players, so you want a rule just for those five players?”

Durant noted that the rest factor wasn't only for physical reasons, but to also provide a mental break from a grueling 82-game season.

“Players if anything, need a mental break sometimes,” Durant said. “And sorry, they're human. They go through so much every single day. There are so many obligations off the court that you don't know about… family… it might not be a physical break, it might just be a reset mentally and I get that.”

But the injured small forward was still sympathetic to the fans as the ultimate victims of this rest issue.

“I also get if I was a fan and could afford to get tickets and I'm circling LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Russell Westbrook on my calendar, I would want to see them play live,” Durant said. “I would be disappointed as well. I see it from the fans' perspective and the players' perspective. I'm caught right in the middle.”

Silver is bound to address this issue in depth during the offseason, given just how much revenue was lost after the NBA has gone above and beyond to get its product televised on a more frequent basis. ABC tied for the lowest rating in an NBA game in broadcast television history after the end of the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. L.A. Clippers matchup on March 18, a game in which the Cavs rested their starters in short notice.
