Despite a great showing by the Golden State Warriors‘ stars in a 113-91 Game 1 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, their leading scorer, Kevin Durant, believes his team can perform a lot better than they did during their 22-point win on Thursday night.

The new addition to the team led all scorers with 38 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in 38 minutes — putting all the pressure aside and making the most of his minutes on the floor.

Durant was 14-of-26 from the floor, 3-of-6 from deep, and 7-of-8 from the line in a turnover-less performance that ranks the second-best in an NBA Finals game since turnovers were first tracked in 1978.

“I try not to predetermine anything. Just go out there and hoop,” Durant said in his post-game press conference. “We can be a lot better than we were tonight, but in The Finals you get a W, and we'll take it.”

The Warriors didn't have a particularly good shooting night, shooting only 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from deep for the game. While they were actually out-rebounded, it was because of the massive 20-shot advantage Golden State had due to their 12 steals and 20 forced turnovers throughout the game.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green had subpar games at the offensive end, going 3-of-16 and 3-of-12 respectively — hence why Durant expects a much better outing than the one they had Thursday, regardless of the result.

Asked about his mindset going up against LeBron James in a one-on-one matchup, KD remained collected.

“It's not about me,” Durant said. “He's gonna do what he does — he is LeBron James. You guys know what he can do, so I just try to play as hard as I can and not make it about a matchup.”

“It's not about us, it's about the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers. We're only gonna do it together, that's just our whole mindset. So I just try to do my part, stay locked in at both ends and have some fun out there.”
