Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac and head coach Dave Joerger must be doing something right in the eyes of the team’s top brass. You could tell that after reports floated that the two got extension deals from the Kings.

Per the Kings’ official website:

The Sacramento Kings today announced that the team has extended the contract of General Manager Vlade Divac and secured the fourth year option on Head Coach Dave Joerger, keeping both in Sacramento through the 2019-20 season.

Divac served as Sacramento’s vice president of basketball and franchise operations in March of 2015 and was promoted a few months later to general manager and vice president of basketball operations. Joerger, on the other hand, was hired as coach last year, two days after the Memphis Grizzlies handed him his walking papers.

Sacramento didn’t have a smashing success in Joerger’s first year as coach with the Kings finishing with only a 32-50 record last season. But it’s hard to pin much of the blame on Joerger, who had to work with a lineup partly without DeMarcus Cousins, who played just 55 games for Sacramento before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, and a young roster that lacks cohesion and experience.

The Kings are hard-pressed to succeed this coming season with a lineup that doesn’t look intimidating, but Joerger has always been known as someone who could surpass expectations.

The Kings obviously trust both Vlade Divac and Dave Joerger enough to hand them extensions. Hopefully for the team, positive results will soon follow.
