NBA players would always say they prefer getting a win over setting an individual record. Sacramento Kings shooting guard Buddy Hield certainly felt that way on Monday night after his career-high 41 points went for naught, as his team still fell 103-102 at the hands of the Boston Celtics.

Aside from scoring his most points ever in the pro league, the 26-year-old Bahamian’s 11 made three-pointers broke the Kings franchise record previously held by Mike Bibby who drained nine in a game. He joins Steph Curry as the only two players to hit 11 or more threes in a losing effort.

Hield was marvelous in the game, shooting 57.7 percent from the field (15-of-26 FG), 11-of-21 from three (52.4 percent). He sizzled in the third quarter where he scored 21 of his 41 points. He also collected five rebounds and two assists in 41:55 minutes.

But the Kings still fell short in the end game after Marcus Smart hit two crucial shots in the closing minutes.

With De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley out to injuries, Hield has taken over the reigns as the focal point of head coach Luke Walton’s offense, tallying 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 15 games.

Hield has now hit 524 career three-pointers with the Kings, good for fourth overall in franchise history. He only trails Peja Stojakovic (1,070), Mitch Richmond (993), and Mike Bibby (775).

After averaging a career-best 20.7 points per game for Sacramento last season, the Kings gifted Hield a four-year extension over the summer that could pay him up to $106 million.
