Buddy Hield had quite a tumultuous 2019-20 campaign with the Sacramento Kings. The sweet shooter had qualms about his bench role and didn't see eye to eye with head coach Luke Walton.
Nonetheless, Hield admitted he had no regrets on his past misgivings with the Kings and looks ready to move on as the 2020-21 season starts.
There were previous reports that Hield was not answering phone calls from Luke Walton during the off-season. Hield has seen his name pop up in trade rumors throughout the break and they continue even to this day. In fact, recent reports claimed that the Kings are looking to acquire “draft compensation” in any kind of deal for the disgruntled shooting guard.
The Kings opted to let starting shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic walk in free agency and sign with the Atlanta Hawks. However, that starting spot isn't a lock for Hield just yet. The Oklahoma Sooners standout will likely need to fight for that spot and rookie guard Tyrese Haliburton should be his main competition.
At 27, Hield is just about to enter his prime. He has established himself as one of the best knock down shooters in the NBA, shooting at an efficient 41.1 percent from beyond the arc for his career. Hield's elite outside shooting and off-the-ball movement certainly fits well in Luke Walton's up-tempo playing style with the Kings.
Hield is still looking for a jump-start to his professional career in terms of team success; that is why his presence on the Kings remains a point of great speculation. In the loaded West, it's going to be hard for Hield and the Kings to take the next step toward NBA relevance.
