The Sacramento Kings turned heads and raised plenty of eyebrows when they drafted Davion Mitchell with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NBA  Draft. After all, they are already loaded in the point guard spot with De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton.

However, while the selection sparked a lot of controversy, Fox himself believes the Kings made the right decision getting Mitchell. After all, the 23-year-old guard out of Baylor brings a different dynamic that Sacramento really needs: defense.

Per Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee, Mitchell's arrival is “great for the team” since “he’s definitely going to come in and help us change a lot of that.”

De'Aaron Fox isn't wrong, though. While there is a bit of a logjam in the Kings' backcourt–which should intensify the battle for the starting positions–Sacramento certainly needs Davion Mitchell and his defense. In fact, he already showed the team how he can make an impact during the Summer League.

Mitchell showed his defensive chops, which is as great as advertised, helping lead the Kings to the Summer League title against the Boston Celtics. Case in point: he was crucial in limiting Payton Pritchard to just six points in the Summer League final after the Celtics guard entered the contest averaging 20.3 points in the tournament.

Luke Walton will have a tough task of figuring out the minutes of the players and how he can fully utilize each to the best of their abilities. However, it's certainly a problem that the Kings would welcome to address.
