Sacramento Kings rookie point guard De’Aaron Fox will not return to Sunday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers after suffering a bruised lower back in the first half, per Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.

Fox, the No. 5 pick in the 2017 draft, had three points on 1-of-6 shooting with two assists and a steal in nine minutes of action in the game.

The Lakers were also missing their star rookie point guard, Lonzo Ball, who sat out his second-straight preseason game due to an ankle injury.

De'Aaron Fox had enjoyed a strong preseason prior to the Lakers game. He averaged 14 points, four assists, and 1.5 steals on 63 percent shooting through his first two games.

Apart from Fox, the Kings still have veteran George Hill, whom they acquired this offseason, and rookie second-round pick Frank Mason as options at point guard should Fox miss time due to his back injury.

The Kings play again on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers before finishing the preseason with road games against the L.A. Clippers on Thursday and the Golden State Warriors on Friday.
