When Harry Giles attended Wesleyan Christian Academy in North Carolina in 2013, he quickly established himself as a projected first overall pick when he was finally eligible for the draft. Unfortunately, he has already undergone three separate knee surgeries and eventually was the 20th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Throughout sports history, there have been numerous athletes who have been unable to reach their full potential due to injury. However, Giles loved the game too much for his injuries to derail his career according to Cameron York of Cowbell Kingdom:

“I learned about will, dedication and how much I love the game,” Giles told Dan Collins. “If you don’t love the game, you can’t come back from an injury like that. You don’t give up. You want to come back better than you were before. You’ve got to work hard to get back to what you want.”

For Giles, the Kings provide him an opportunity to play consistent minutes as they are rebuilding. For the Kings, Giles provides them with a top-talent prospect who has great potential if he is able to stay healthy. While it remains to be seen, Giles' work ethic will give him a chance to live out his dream.

Heading into the new season, the Kings have established a young core with Giles, Willie Cauley-Stein, De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, and Skal Labissiere. While it is unclear if they will be good enough to contend in the future, the front office has surrounded them with veterans in Vince Carter, George Hill, and Zach Randolph.
