The Sacramento Kings are likely to acquiesce to Joe Johnson's desires and agree to a buyout with the veteran forward, allowing him to seek playing time with a contender, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

A 41-year-old Vince Carter might be looking for a similar deal if the right opportunity arises, but the Kings are hopeful he remains with the team throughout the remainder of the season.

Johnson was brought to Sacramento through a three-team trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Utah Jazz, as the Cavs netted swingman Rodney Hood and veteran point man George Hill.

The veteran swingman has seen very little time on the floor after sustaining an injury and if he's able to secure a buyout with the Kings, will seek a contender to join for the rest of the regular season.

Carter signed a one-year deal with the Kings in the offseason after he left the Memphis Grizzlies following his three-year stint with the team, and while he hasn't garnered nearly as much playing time as he did with Memphis, he has served as a mentor for the youth of the team.

The Kings would work with Carter on a buyout if the right opportunity arose, but are hoping to retain the veteran in his 20th and likely last season in the NBA.

Sacramento is the third-worst team in the league at 17-36 and offers very little for Carter to gain, aside from a mentoring environment, making his potential departure a matter of what team comes calling.
