Kevin Huerter has been one of the better players for the Atlanta Hawks over the last few years. The young shooting guard has shown tremendous growth as a secondary option and shooter from deep. It came as a surprise, then, when the Hawks traded Huerter to the Sacramento Kings for essentially a first-round pick.

It's safe to say that Kevin Huerter himself was blindsided by this sudden Kings trade. He had a short but succinct reaction on Twitter that was both amusing and heartbreaking, to say the least.

The harsh reality of the NBA is that if you're not a superstar-type player, you can always be traded by your team. It seemed like Atlanta was the perfect place for Huerter… until it wasn't. Their trade for Dejounte Murray and pursuit of Kevin Durant made him expendable. He was shipped off to the Kings for a first-round pick and a couple of expiring contracts.

The Kings could be the perfect destination for Huerter to end up, though. Ever the rebuilding team, Huerter could be a young intriguing asset for this team who can also help them win games now. For short, the guard fits both of the potential goals of the franchise: win games immediately, or build for the future.

The Kings have also made another big signing in the guard department, singing ex-Lakers guard Malik Monk. Monk was often a bright spot in a tumultuous season in LA. With him, Huerter, and De'Aaron Fox, Sac-Town's guard rotation could be very interesting next season.
