Unlike their fellow California-based NBA brethren, the Sacramento Kings are not currently considered as a premier destination for top free agents. What they lack in attractiveness, though, they make up for with a spacious financial leg room. In fact, as pointed out by Albert Nahmad of Heat Hoops, the Kings have the biggest cap room left out of all NBA teams.

That said, the Kings may be wise to stand still in this free agency. In the first place, there are not a lot of tasty free agents left on the market. But if Sacramento insists, its options are left to a pool of unemployed players like Michael Beasley, Ty Lawson, Greg Monroe, and Nick Young. Not quite a group that would salivate NBA front offices.

A cap crunch has left most teams this year with shallower pockets, which in turn made it hard for them to sign significant additions. As for the Kings, even with all that salary cap space, they have not been able to make waves this summer in part because the franchise has yet to prove they are capable of becoming a title contender anytime soon.

The Kings project to have an even more sizeable cap space next year as the likes of Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert, and Kosta Koufos are bound for free agency in the summer of 2019. Those three players’ salaries account for $30.6 million of the Kings’ current active roster cap worth $76.6 million.
