Another season has passed by the Sacramento Kings and it's another season without a postseason appearance. Luke Walton's club finished 31-41 this year, good for just 12th in the Western Conference. Speculation has long been floated out about whether or not Walton will return to the Kings for next season. The head coach doesn't seem to be too worried about his job security.

Via Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, Walton isn't too concerned.

“It doesn’t weigh on me because it’s the same thing I always talk about — it’s control what you can control — the same message I give my players every day,” Walton said. “To me, the storyline and the focus of Sacramento right now should be on this team and the excitement of what we saw out of our young rookie in Tyrese and the progress that De’Aaron Fox made and the year Richaun Holmes and Harrison Barnes had, and even Buddy — watching Buddy continue to grow and start having games with seven or eight assists and low turnovers.” – Luke Walton.

While Walton brings up valid points about the growth of some of the young players with the Kings, it doesn't assure that he will be the one coaching them come next season. Thought that is the case, the Kings haven't had much luck with coaching hires in recent history. Sacramento has rolled through 10 coaches in the last 15 years and still haven't made a single postseason in those last 15 years.

Despite the Kings finishing 28th in points given up per game (117.4 PPG) and 30th in defensive rating (116.5), Walton remains confident.

“So if you ask me, I’ll tell you, no, I’m not concerned at all because it doesn’t do anything for me or the group to be concerned, so we’ll stay focused on the positive and the good things. Like I continue to say, I’m excited about this group and excited about our future.” – Luke Walton.

With young emerging players like Tyrese Haliburton and De'Aaron Fox, the Kings are hoping this time the optimism about their future is genuine. The next big question is whether Walton will be the one leading them into said future.
