The Sacramento Kings want to keep Buddy Hield in the team for the foreseeable future. However, it seems like the process will take a while. Head coach Luke Walton hopes that Hield will be able to ink a new deal with the team and stay a King for the coming years.

The Sacremento Bee's Jason Anderson asked the former Lakers head coach about his opinion on the contract situation. He shared that while the contract talks are between Hield and the Kings front office, he's hoping that the shooting guard will stay.

“Everyone knows we love Buddy,” Walton said following Friday’s practice. “That’s him and the front office dealing with (contract discussions). Buddy’s been great. I think last night, defensively, he really stepped up to the challenge that we’ve been putting out there for him. All game, from the first play, he’s chasing Booker around, who’s an elite scorer in our league, and I thought that showed a lot of growth from Buddy last night.”

Hield is looking to get a max contract as his rookie deal is about to expire. However, he may not get as much money as the other NBA players due to the Daryl Morey controversy. Hield himself has said that he wants to stay in the team and get the contract done.

Per Yahoo! Sports' Dan Feldman:

“We need to get that done,” Hield told The Bee. “I want to get that done, for sure. If it doesn’t get done, things could go the other way. This is where I want to be, so it would be good for me to be here in Sacramento. If I’m their guy, I think they should make it happen already. I want to build a future here.”

Hield was a strong component for the Kings last season. He started in all 82 games, averaging 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He's an important backcourt partner for De'Aaron Fox, and it's in Sacramento's priorities to keep him signed.
