Scaramento Kings prized rookie Marvin Bagley III is taking a revolutionary training approach in a bid to steer clear of major injuries. In order to achieve this goal, the second overall pick of this year's draft has turned to the science of biomechanics, or the study of the mechanical laws relating to the movement or structure of living organisms.

Eric Leidersdorf is one of the leading figures in this highly-technical field and currently holds the title of Director of Biomechanics at a multi-million dollar scientific initiative called Peak Performance Project or P3. He has been working with Bagley for some time now, and had nothing but good things to say about about the 19-year-old. This is via Seerat Sohi of SB Nation.

“Guys like Marvin are exciting for us because they’ve taken their development on at a young age,” Leidersdorf says about Bagley who first embarked on his biomechanical journey at the tender age of 17. “There are a lot of factors that contribute to an athlete sustaining an injury, but they’ve given themselves some good tools early on that should help them have a productive career, which counts for a lot. I think we’ve seen that slowly shift in basketball over the last handful years.”

Injuries have always been one of the ugliest parts of the sport, and it has so often curtailed the careers of more than a few potential greats. Modern day advances have helped alleviate the occurrence of injuries, and advances in biomechanics is definitely a further step towards the right direction.
