Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams is among the prime candidates to take over as head coach of the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

An earlier report indicated newly-extended GM Vlade Divac is preparing to fire coach Dave Joerger over a face-to-face meeting later today.

Williams has a proven track record of coaching young players, as it was he who first helped Anthony Davis grow into the player he is today. His reputation across the league as one of the nicest people in the NBA is notable, along with his strong rapport with players and coaches alike.

The 47-year-old coach will have interest beyond the Kings as well, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. Other prominent assistants like San Antonio Spurs right-hand man Ettore Messina will also be one among them, reportedly “definitely” interested in the Kings' job if offered.

More importantly, the Kings will have to choose wisely, as filling the head coach vacancy will take an individual that can work not only with young players, but also smoothly with the front office.

Run-ins between Joerger and the recently-fired assistant GM Brandon Williams have been well-chronicled throughout the season, but will be a factor to avoid, given that neither will be a part of the organization after today.
