The Sacramento Kings have signed free agent Isaiah Pineiro to a partially-guaranteed, one-year contract, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

A 6-foot-7 wing out of the University of San Diego, Pineiro averaged 18.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, becoming the first player in school history to ever score at least 600 points in a single season. He shot 48.7 percent overall and 33.3 percent on 3.3 three-point attempts per game.

Pineiro signed to play with the Kings Summer League squad shortly after going undrafted, just the earliest stage of him realizing a life-long dream. He grew up in Auburn, CA, a short drive from Sacramento, cheering for the Kings.

“I rooted for the Kings [growing up]. It’s a little surreal. You grow up with a really close hometown team and you see them playing all the time,” Pineiro said after Summer League, per team reporter Hannah Taheri. “So, to put on that jersey – it’s a good feeling.”

Obviously, Sacramento liked what it saw from Pineiro over the summer. One of two players to appear in all five of the Kings' Summer League contests, he averaged 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game, shooting 47.1 percent from the field and missing both of his three-point attempts.

Sacramento blew past expectations last season, going 39-43 as point guard De'Aaron Fox established himself as a foundational cornerstone, giving the team sustained hope for the first time in years. The Kings weren't quite good enough to save the job of coach Dave Joerger, though, who was fired in April and replaced by former Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton a few weeks later.
