The Sacramento Kings just lost a former MVP and one of the greatest players of all-time as an owner. Shaquille O'Neal, famously a minority owner of the team, has decided to sell off his investment in pursuit of greener pastures.

Shaq was vocal on Twitter with a heartfelt message for Kings fans and the organization at large.

“I want to thank the fans, the city of Sacramento, Vivek Ranadive and the entire Kings organization for our great partnership. I loved being an owner of such a forward thinking organization and I hope to be back someday.”

The former Los Angeles Lakers/Kings tormentor became a beloved figure for a franchise that has largely struggled to find success for the past handful of seasons.

The Kings are currently in the midst of the longest active playoff drought in the NBA with a streak that's spanned 16 seasons. That's more than double the next closest franchise – the Charlotte Hornets, who look poised to end their own six-year playoff hiatus this season.

Sacramento once again finds themselves near the bottom of the pile with a 15-27 record at the midway point of the season. Maybe this becomes the season they finally luck out in the draft and draft a future Shaq in the making? Kings fans can only hope.
