Newly-appointed Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton is in hot waters right now following reports surfacing pertaining to the recent sexual assault and battery charges he is currently facing.

In a succeeding report published by The Athletic's Sam Amick, it appears that Kings general manager Vlade Divac had no knowledge about these allegations whatsoever, and was just as shocked as everybody else when he learned about the lawsuit.

A source with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic that Divac had no previous knowledge of the accusations until the report surfaced and that it was too early in this fact-finding process to explore the possibility of terminating Walton’s contract.

Both the Kings and Walton could not have had a worse start to their relationship than how things are going right now. Walton has yet to even coach a single game for the Kings, and already, his tenure with the organization is already in limbo.

Divac had been eyeing Walton for some time now, and had envisioned him to be the man at the helm for the Kings for the next few years.

Divac, whose final NBA season (2003-04) came alongside Walton with the Lakers during his second season in the league, had pegged Walton as a likely replacement long before firing Joerger. Then just two days after Divac was given a four-year extension that runs through 2022-23, he was coming to terms on a four-year deal with Walton that would put them on the same timeline.

Sexual assault allegations are definitely no small matter, but Walton can still come out of this mess with his dignity intact. He will, of course, have to prove his innocence both in court and more importantly, in the watchful eye of the entire basketball community.
