The Sacramento Kings are denying prior reports that former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie was in the running for an executive position within the organization, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

Owner Vivek Ranadive had reportedly held talks with Hinkie, but the latter was unsure of any imminent interest in the job. According to Wojnarowski, the controversial owner has been looking to put someone above Vice President Vlade Divac.

Upon his report, the team came out with a statement refuting the claims:

“The Kings are not hiring Sam Hinkie and have no plans to bring anyone in above Vlade,” the team said in a statement.

Sacramento netted a relatively very poor return for their franchise player DeMarcus Cousins, who was traded right after the All-Star game. The team has gone a poor 4-12 since his departure, with rookie Buddy Hield as the only bright talent out of the deal.

The Kings are loomed in quite the ominous situation and could use someone of Hinkie's experience in the draft, given how he was known to be one of the major forces pushing to draft rookie Joel Embiid — thing that has played limited, but impressive dividends in Philly.
