Even with a deep pool of talent in this year’s draft, the Sacramento Kings already have their eyes set on a particular player that they badly want to select and bring in to their lineup.

Reports have surfaced that the team is trying their best to move up in the order to allow themselves a better chance of selecting Kansas forward Josh Jackson, as they apparently are “starving” to have him, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer:

“The Kings are “starved” for Kansas forward Josh Jackson, according to The Vertical’s Chris Mannix. The vibe I get from chatting with league sources is there’s a distinct possibility that the Kings would look to move up ahead of Phoenix (no. 4) for Jackson, possibly using the no. 5 and no. 10 picks, but they’d need more back than just the no. 3 pick.”

It’s easy to understand why the Kings think highly of Jackson, as he is a versatile player who can play multiple positions, including the small forward spot. With their chances of re-signing Rudy Gay looking very slim, the 20-year-old will be able to fill in the void left by him. Drafting Jackson will also be crucial for them to continue with their youth movement and rebuild with a young core.

However, it’s far from a certainty that Jackson will still be available when they’re on the clock, as the Boston Celtics have made it known that he is one of the players they are planning to pick.

With only a few days left before the draft, it will very interesting to see how things unfold for the Kings, but since they’re open to a possible trade to move up the order, it could be their best chance of making sure they’ll end up with the player they want. That is, unless the C’s select Jayson Tatum and the Phoenix Suns take De’Aaron Fox.
