The Sacramento Kings have been at the center of the NBA trade rumor mill as of late, with rumors surrounding possible trades including the Detroit Pistons' Jerami Grant, and the endless rumors about the Philadelphia 76ers' unhappy star, Ben Simmons. Most of these trades involving the Kings revolve around De'Aaron Fox, fueled by speculation pointed towards the clogged Kings backcourt. As the Kings have drafted two guards in the last two drafts — Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell — to go with Fox, more and more rumors are rising when it comes to relocating Fox for star-level talent at another position.

Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer notes executives around the NBA viewing Fox as a potential trade chip for general manager Monte McNair. The presence of Haliburton and Mitchell can potentially point towards a trade surrounding Fox — or Fox in a package alongside other pieces — happening soon enough. Mitchell, already a good defender, could  grow into a dependable point guard eventually.

However, this eventually is what leaves Kings fans worried, as O'Connor explains:

“But Fox is still Sacramento’s primary source of shot creation. Mitchell hasn’t proved he can run the show. Haliburton seems more like a secondary guy given his athletic limitations.

It’s still early. Mitchell’s defense, despite his size, is already still good enough to give him regular opportunities. But for McNair and the Kings to make trades to change the construction of this team, the roster needs to start showing something on a nightly basis.”

While a blockbuster trade — such as one involving Ben Simmons, or another star-level talent — may be on the horizon for the Kings, there is still a long way to go and a lot of rumors to sort through in the process. After all, this whole affair might just be all smoke and mirrors, and Fox may just finish another season with Sacramento.
