Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac was reportedly glad to hear Luke Walton and the Los Angeles Lakers had parted ways on Friday, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

The Kings fired coach Dave Joerger on Thursday, confirming months of rumors about discord between he and management. Since Sacramento's job became available and Walton left the Lakers, multiple reports have surfaced that Divac has already reached out to the 39-year-old to schedule an interview.

Sacramento wildly outperformed expectations in 2018-19, winning 39 games, the most wins by a Kings team since 2006. That just so happens to be the last time the Kings made the postseason, too. Sacramento has the longest active playoff drought in the NBA right now.

Walton, meanwhile, went 98-148 over three seasons with the Lakers. He led the Golden State Warriors to a 39-4 start during the 2015-16 season while Steve Kerr was away from the team recovering from back surgery.

If Walton does get hired by the Kings, he will be inheriting a talented roster led by explosive point guard De'Aaron Fox, ever-improving sharpshooter Buddy Hield, and promising big man Marvin Bagley, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft.

This is the first offseason in a long time we can say with certainty that Sacramento has a bright future, which is why it's all the more imperative Divac picks the right voice to lead his team moving forward.
