Sunday night at the Staples Center featured the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers in a mostly meaningless matchup between two teams that are already out of playoff contention. Nevertheless, the game itself had its share of thrilling moments, particularly down the stretch, which includes the game-sealing basket by Kings rookie De’Aaron Fox that helped preserve an 84-83 win for Sacramento. It was also the Kings’ first win in five games.

It was an unfortunate turn of events for the Lakers, who had a shot of tying the game or getting the lead had they not allowed De’Aaron Fox score that easily in the lane. Fox’s late-game bucket gave the Kings a 50-point night in the paint. Fox finished the game with 14 points on 6-for-18 shooting from the floor along with six assists and three rebounds. While Lonzo Ball did not play in the game due to a knee contusion, De'Aaron Fox could consider this contest as another win for him in his head-to-head matchup with Lonzo dating back to their college days.

For the Lakers, the loss was another bitter pill to swallow for them. They had the game tied at 80-80 after Julius Randle went 1-for-2 from the foul line with a little over a minute left in the game, but a pair of turnovers both led to two-point baskets for Sacramento, including Fox’s two-pointer.

With the Kings’ victory, Sacramento also managed to tie their season series with the Lakers at 2-2. The Kings won the first meeting this season then the Lakers bagged the next two.
