While former Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins is currently the talk of the NBA world after agreeing to join the Golden State Warriors, a new Kings big man tried to steal some bit of thunder from the free agency by dunking over fellow pro league newcomer Moritz Wagner of the Los Angeles Lakers.

While it was just a Summer League game, the result of which is inconsequential to the NBA title aspirations of both teams involved, the atmosphere inside Golden 1 Center gave the feeling as though the crowd was watching playoff basketball. Bagley’s throwdown over Wagner just made it a lot spicier than most Summer League contests and added more excitement to the match itself.

The Kings are hoping that Bagley becomes a franchise savior, one who would rescue the team from perennial mediocrity. This year’s No. 2 pick in the draft gave a good account of himself, scoring 18 points and pulling down six rebounds in 25 minutes of action of a 98-93 win over the Lakers.

Wagner, the Lakers’ first-round pick (25th overall) this year, put up solid numbers of 23 points and seven rebounds to go with two 3-pointers and a 9-for-10 line from the charity stripe. However, not one of those statistics will be remembered more than the midair punishment he received from Bagley, who signed a two-year, $14.9 million deal with the Kings this month.
