In a matter of weeks, Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins is set to hit the free agent market as one of the most sought out players in the league.

There have already been several teams that expressed interest in him over the last several days since the Washington Redskins made the surprising move to acquire Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Cousins stated on Friday that this upcoming free agency period has brought back some of the same feelings he had when he was being recruited out of high school.

“I haven’t had a chance to choose where I was going to play since 2007 when I chose Michigan State. I’m looking forward to that opportunity,” Cousins said.

At this moment, the 29-year-old is the clear-cut top available player at his position. It's put him in the fortunate position as the primary target of numerous quarterback-needy franchises. This list of teams has already included the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars. There have also been many prominent players from nearly all of those teams to state during their various interviews this week that they would be happy to have him under center next season.

Cousins has established himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the league over the last few seasons. He has notched more than 4,000 passing yards with at least 25 touchdowns and a passer rating above 90 in each campaign over the last three years. In the 2017 season, he threw for 4,093 yards on a 64.3 percent completion percentage with 27 touchdown passes to 13 interceptions and 93.9 passer rating.

Beyond just the huge amount of attention he will draw on the open market, Cousins looks to be headed toward a huge payday on a lucrative deal as the franchise quarterback for another team for the first in his career. All of this will make out for an intriguing free agency process that could have some surprising twists and turns ahead.
