Jay Gruden has been candid about his tenure with the Washington Football Team and he revealed some of the relationships on the team. While Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had a couple of productive seasons in Washington, Gruden shared that he never seemed to have much chemistry with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.

“There were some jealousy issues, I think, between the two of them a little bit,” he said, via Scott Allen of the Washington Post. “ … When they got in the huddle, I don’t know what happened, if they gave Kirk a hard time, made Kirk uncomfortable. ‘Throw me the ball,' ‘throw me the ball,’ it could have been like that. But there wasn’t really the true camaraderie, I would say, between the three of them, in my opinion.”

Jay Gruden was the head coach in Washington for five-plus years before being fired after Week 5 of the 2019 season. He would then become the offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, only to be relieved of his duties with Urban Meyer becoming the head coach of the Jaguars.

During his time in Washington, Gruden had Cousins as his quarterback for nearly three and a half seasons. Even though Cousins had his own lapses of judgment under center, Gruden believes that Jackson and Garcon made Cousins uncomfortable at times.

Wide receivers are typically guys who want the ball thrown in their direction as much as possible. The lingering animosity between the QB and his wide receivers made it difficult on all parties. Jackson and Garcon would both depart in free agency from Washington following the 2016 season due to their roles in the offense. After discussing the details of Daniel Snyder's draft habits, Gruden is disclosing what Kirk Cousins' relationships were like with some of his previous wide receivers.
