New York Knicks veteran Derrick Rose just dished out some sound advice for his young teammates with regards to their head coach in Tom Thibodeau. The former league MVP has been under the mentorship of the fiery head coach for quite some time now and, coming into their eighth season together, Rose believes he knows how to navigate his way around Thibodeau.

After the Knicks' preseason win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, the 33-year-old shared a funny excerpt on what he told his younger teammates during the game with regards to coach Thibs:

“At halftime, right before he walked in, I was telling the young guys ‘Do not look over to the sideline. If you look at him, it's going to f— up your game',” Rose said (via SNY Knicks). “When I was younger, I used to look over to the sideline a lot and you feel his emotions, and it's kinda strange so after a while, I just raise my hand and put my head down,”

The three-time All-Star spent six seasons under Thibs when both were still with the Chicago Bulls. Rose went on to explain that Thibs' energy can be distracting and even discouraging, at times, that's why it's smart to simply admit your mistake and move on – especially mid-game. The former ROTY also expressed that, though Thibs has been known to have quite the temper, he has a winning mentality and respects his players so much.

“He has amnesia,” Rose adds. “I've seen him go at it with a lot of players during the game and I had to mediate that. And, there were no hard feelings. He's great at it. He respected that way,”

The connection between Thibs and Rose is definitely special and it's set to get tested once again as both try to lead the Knicks to back-to-back playoff stints this coming season.
