With the free agent market taking shape, the New York Knicks have begun to hone in on players that can boost their backcourt next season.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Knicks continue to show that they have some significant interest in veteran guard Dion Waiters.

Waiters has already talked with the Knicks, Miami Heat,  Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and Chicago Bulls since the free agency period began. Among the bunch, the Lakers have expressed the most interest in Waiters, which came to be expected given that his former agent Rob Pelinka is now the team's general manager.

Waiters is coming off one of his most productive seasons with the Heat where he averaged 15.8 points along with posting career-highs of 39.5 percent from 3-point range and 4.3 assists per contest despite playing in just 46 games. This includes scoring 20 or more points on 16 occasions and two 30-point performances.

The Knicks could be an interesting play for him as he can earn a significant role on the team in the starting lineup as one of their primary offensive options. However, the Heat could re-emerge as a strong option for him with them being unable to land All-Star forward Gordon Hayward, who recently came to terms with the Celtics.
