Having no certainty if Derrick Rose will re-sign with them this summer, the New York Knicks are already preparing themselves for the possibility of having a new playmaker running their offense.

It has been reported that the team is looking to add one veteran point guard, who has proven in the past that he is capable of providing solid minutes night in and night out, and will not command a very huge pay.

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN Insider, the Knicks are interested in the services of Shelvin Mack, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.

The 27-year-old Butler product has spent the past two seasons with the Utah Jazz and has played solid basketball for them. This past campaign, he appeared in 55 games for the team, and averaged decent numbers of 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 21.8 minutes per game.

With next season being his eighth in the NBA, Mack has already gained a lot of experience playing at the highest level. Should he ultimately sign a deal with the Knicks, he is expected to have a lot of playing time, and also mentor their young rookie, Frank Ntilikina. However, it’s still unclear if they’ll indeed extend an offer to him, as it will depend on Rose’s decision first, if he wants to remain in New York.
