The New York Knicks finished the regular season below .500 with a 37-45 record and no postseason run. After the disappointing 2021-2022 season, the team is looking forward to moving on and preparing for the season ahead.

The NBA Draft Lottery is the next big thing for teams not competing in the 2022 NBA Playoffs, New York included. However, statistically speaking, Knicks fans shouldn't get their hopes up. That's according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who tweeted a daunting fact from Knicks' past.

While the early morning tweet is ruthless, Schefter isn't wrong. The Knicks have had extremely bad luck the past few decades when it comes to the draft lottery. In the last 17 years, the Knicks have either moved back from or remained in their draft position. The last time they moved up was when they won the 1985 lottery after originally holding the third position.

Of course, this isn't the Knicks' fault. As are all other lotteries, the NBA Draft Lottery is based on pure luck.

However, maybe this is the year that the lottery momentum shifts in favor of New York. Ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery, the Knicks are projected to hold the 11th overall spot in the draft. They have a 2% chance of winning the lottery, but could potentially land elsewhere.
